‘H-p1’ is the second White Hills album on Thrill Jockey following their self-titled album and many sold-out vinylonly releases.
Musically, ‘H-p1’ expands on the explorations of previous albums in ambience, noise, and space rock all led by guitarist Dave W.'s blistering solos.
This is the most fully realized White Hills album to date and the one that takes them furthest from their pure space rock roots.
“The trio continues down the path to space rock ecstasy with an arsenal of heavy riffs, stratospheric effects and the usual pummeling beat tethering things to the ground. Just as exploratory as their 2010 S/T album, ‘H-p1’ stretches the spaced template the band has built itself on, adding the extra push of synths to pull them further into the eye of prog, metal and sonic fury” - Raven Sings the Blues.
“One of the years gnarliest psych slabs – a schizophrenic trip through Acid Mothers Temple riff bludgeon, Boris chug, shaggy pseudo-grunge, and tender bursts of formless noise” – Village Voice.
